How to go about entering baby modeling

Congratulations on entering the world of baby modeling.  For many of you it will be the start of a very long and illustrious occupation, for others it is a tiny foray into something unknown.  Whichever your aim it is definitely worth a go.

There are however things to think through before you jump in so you are aware of what is required:

At the very beginning, you want know that while we all think that our own little ones are beautiful, sometimes a baby modeling agency or photographer is looking for a certain look.  So no matter how gorgeous the baby they might not take child.  Try to have be resilient as the agents will often be very blunt in their views.

Second of all, baby modeling is a lot of work for the baby and the adult.  You will be doing a lot of travelling to and from auditions and photoshoots and then standing in one place for long periods of time while the photographer gets the correct set of photographs.  Your child will be required to sit, stand and crawl at will and can be very tiring as they are moved from location location.  You must also be both patient and pay attention that the photographer is not asking too much.

Third of all, take note that this area of modeling transforms as your baby gets bigger as does the competition for shoots.  So be aware that while you may have the perfect look now, your child will grow as will the must haves and the industry in general.

If after considering these points you are still interested then I encourage you get in there and give it a go.  As long as you have the endurance and the passion then you can make a brilliant career in baby modeling for your little one.

Joining baby modeling agents

Do you have a pretty baby?  Do they have the qualities to be a baby model?  If the answer a definite OF COURSE, then the next thing that you’ll require is a baby modeling agent.
Many parents seem to believe that they can go this alone and elude paying anyone a share of the money.  It is true, it’s your baby’s picture that is on the cover, and it’s you and your yours that travel between the casting and photo shoots.  This can be irritating to see the amount of income that the agencies receive.
However the basic reality is that an agent will offer you a lot more work and thus a lot more income than going it alone.  thereby making the money paid out as an extremely good investment.

As well as this any good agent will bring with them a lot of key know-how and familiarity with the field.  Be careful of underestimating this knowledge, as it makes a big difference.  A good agent will have an investment in your childs success so will guide your baby so that your chances of gaining jobs are at their best.  Your agent will know the industry and they know what does and does not lead to success.

So what makes an agent a valuable resource:

The agent will have connections throughout the industry and can thus find you work that rarely appear in the public realm.  In fact there are some clients prefer to work solely with particular agents or agencies and therefore give you a privileged entry point.

A lot of agents know the industry from personal experience as they were models themselves and know exactly what is needed to make it.

The difference in working with private agents over agencies is that the way they work is usually more personal and your chances of getting shoots are significantly increased as their commissions are sourced from a select set of babies.  It is therefore quite important that you opt for an agency that is experienced enough to have established itself in the baby modeling field but not so big as to lose sight of your baby.
I think the best agents are fast moving but straightforward.  They will tell you  how it is and will take you far if you are willing to keep pace.  But at the same time they will also note quickly if you do not have the dedication and will put their efforts in elsewhere.  So if you want it, really WANT it.

What is a baby modeling portfolio?

A models portfolio is a an album of photographs that portray the physical features, style and general appearance of a potential model.  It will showcase any previous engagements that have been undertaken and most importantly acts as a vital introduction to potential clients of the models.

For an adult model this is an obvious requirement.  However, for a baby model the portfolio it is completely wasted and is in most cases a very large waste of money.  The main reason is that a child model changes change very fast to make the baby modeling portfolio of use to you or an agency.

So instead of paying the money to create an amazing model book that will be useless in five months I recommend spending your time and cash to gather about 3-5 good standard pictures  that you can send to to an modelling agent.  The pictures can be taken in the home or by a professional, but keep in mind that you will probably need to renew your images in six months so outlay your money wisely!

Regardless, you will want to make sure that you obtain a demonstrative sample of photographs.  Try to include:

  • A head and shoulders image.  This is a close up shot of your baby.

  • A full length photograph.  This should provide a good indication of the size and physique of your infant.

  • A personality image.  This will present something of your childs spirit.

  • Location picture.  Try to see that the images are taken both indoors and outdoors and in changed lighting.  There can be a big difference when you use natural versus interior lighting.

  • Style image.  Attire your baby appropriately and try a few varied fashions. These are all basic things to do and can be taken on your personal camera.  Also with the beauty of digital you can shoot large numbers of snapshots if you need and just opt for the ideals that present your infant how you like.

What to Think about Before Picking Baby Modeling Agencies

There are lots of things to ponder when you first start out in the realm of child modelling, however the first and most important of these is locating the best modeling agency for you and your child.

Yet, this might not be as straightforward as you might think as regrettably there are many scams circling this industry that will happily take your money away from you nothing. So what you need is to find an authentic agent with a plethora of experience. Remember, this is your childs welfare after all. Here’s some points to remember when deciding on your baby modelling agencies:

1. Don’t reply to advertisements for infant models. You might have visions of your baby being discovered by an agent and lifted into stardom, however this is not the way to reach your objective. The reason for this is simple – true agencies don’t advertise as the kids come to them. So please keep away from flyers, direct mail, and newspaper ads.

2. Don’t make any upfront payments. A true baby agency drives their revenue through commissions and won’t rely on upfront fees to join or to create a photographic portfolio. They should be giving you with cash not the opposite.

3. Expert photos are not needed at this point of the game so steer away from this. Quite a few conmen will ask a fortune for a selection of photos that will be obsolete in a short period of time and are basically unnecessary.

4. When you have located a selection of baby modeling agencies that seem alright then do more investigations to ensure that they are real.
a. The internet is an excellent first point of call as you will find reviews concerning the agency and also how their online persona appears. If they cannot even be found then beware.
b. Verify the authenticity of the agency through the Business Bureau.
c. Go to their offices yourself. Legitimate agencies will have offices and will definitely need to meet your infant before joining them up as they need to check out the child in the flesh so they can note character and disposition and ensure that the pictures are an up to date and accurate image of your child.

If you use these simple steps you’ll can avoid conmen and locate an agent that will create an income.
